Stasis is a short ethereal work for solo clarinet with digital delay (echo) using an air microphone instead of a contact mic.

Perform with the clarinet pointed about 45 degrees to one side of the mic.

For the bold printed notes. Play the grace notes at the end of each phrase

 directly into the mic.  Allow a pause between the phrases.

 

I visualized the piece as a line on a graph starting at 0. The line tries to pull upward away from zero but keeps falling back, leaving a ghost image in its wake. Throughout the piece it has more and more success but inevitably falls again. With the final high D it looks down upon the struggles with a sigh.
